Accessibility Intern

September 2024-March 2025
As an accessibility intern, I collaborated with a team of eight course support specialists to enhance the online learning experience for thousands of FSU students, including over 5,000 who rely on accessibility services such as screen readers.

I remediated 12% of 375+ documents from over 20 courses utilizing tools such as Adobe Acrobat, Ally, ABBYY FineReader, and CommonLook.
My remediation consisted of tagging PDF documents, updating video captions, and providing alternative text (alt tags) for images to ensure ADA compliance. I also remediated accessibility issues such as contrast issues, citation errors, and misuse of underlining or colored text for emphasis.
In Fall 2024, I contributed to the Accessibility Face-to-Face Classes Research Project alongside two course support specialists to improve accessibility in face-to-face courses for the upcoming school year. My role involved organizing and analyzing data to determine which colleges at Florida State University needed the most support in addressing accessibility issues in their Canvas courses. My findings identified which department our team should focus on moving forward.

In Spring 2025, I collaborated with three course support specialists on the Math Accessibility Project to research and implement accessible math tools—such as equation editors and MathML/LaTeX converters—for FSU's mathematics courses.
